Books and Hometown Memories: Featuring Roxanne

Roxanne grew up in Perry, New York

Perry, New York is still a small town in Western New York equidistant to Buffalo and Rochester. The enchanting aspects of Perry include: Silver Lake which came with a Loch Ness Monster type folk tale, an independently owned Drive In Theater, a Mini Golf Course and adjacent to the award winning Letchworth State Park, known and deservedly so, of the moniker 'the Grand Canyon of the East'. Two of the largest industries were also ideal for kids growing up-Archway Cookies and Champion Sports Products.

Novels that help me reminisce about Perry are: Snow Falling On Cedars by David Guterson (Western New York used to get buried in snow), To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Groundskeeping by Lee Cole (a town once thriving with one stop light, Perry had two) and Everything I Have is Your by Eleanor Henderson....that bio set in Ithaca reminded me of my hometown since even small towns have families with serious challenges and local law enforcement who can be life saving in their kindness and understanding.
